Meet the Neighbors: Barbara & Jim
Why they chose Houston Springs

Jim and Barbara (and Ruffles) recently moved into their new Baypointe model in Fairway Ridge, a village in Houston Springs. After living in the snow-belt in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for several years, followed by Colleyville, Texas, they moved to a Del Webb active adult community in Georgetown, Texas. But the large-scale community in Texas was not quite what they were looking for. After several years, they still did not have the sense of community and familiarity that they desired. “Whenever I went to the clubhouse or used any of the facilities, I did not see any familiar faces. The same thing was true when shopping in town. I just didn’t feel very connected” said Barbara.

Jim and Barbara then moved to Melbourne, Florida. However, after enduring four years of Florida’s “growing pains” and three hurricanes in one year, they decided to move again.

Jim and Barbara knew they wanted an active adult community - as Jim said, “We wanted to play with kids our own age.” After doing a lot of research on the internet, they decided to come see Houston Springs. They also checked out communities in North and South Carolina, but found they could get a lot more for their money in Houston Springs. “We found their website had real information readily available, whereas most other development sites require you to send off for information” said Jim. “Before we arrived to make our initial visit, we were already sure that this community was a strong contender.”

Jim and Barbara visited Houston Springs and stayed in a hospitality home, and loved being able to “test out the feel of the neighborhood.” They purchased their home the next day. They especially loved the village design, as no matter how large Houston Springs gets, they will still live in a small neighborhood full of friends with their own neighborhood clubhouse.

Six weeks prior to their closing, Jim and Barbara moved to Houston Springs and stayed in a rental home on the property. By the time they moved into their new home, they had a new circle of friends, and had participated in neighborhood events such as parties, cookouts, and pot lucks. Jim joined the Men’s Golf Association, and Barbara, a quilter, is trying to get a quilting circle started up. “We also love being part of a ‘new’ community, where all your neighbors are also new to the area. We are all on the same playing field” commented Jim. “The neighborhood association is more relaxed. The last place we lived in had too many residents and too many rules!”

Barbara did form a quilting club at Houston Springs!

“We love Perry,” said Barbara. Not only do I see friends all over the neighborhood, but I also see familiar faces when shopping at the grocery store. The president of the bank came out to welcome us when we opened our new account! We have made more new friends here than we did after four years in Melbourne, Florida. And our new hobby is watching all the homes being built. We find it interesting and relaxing to sit on the front porch and see the changes.”
